Crypto Search Interest
MarketGoogle search interest for a basket of crypto terms, including retail-onboarding queries like 'how to buy bitcoin'.
What it is
This leg tracks Google search interest for a basket of terms. The onboarding queries add a retail-mania angle, the 'how do I even buy this' moment that comes with tops.
How it's computed
Use the search-interest index level for the basket directly as the signal. It is linear-normalized.
How to read it
Search interest peaks near tops with the surge of new buyers; 'how to buy bitcoin' peaked hardest in December 2017. Because search has run structurally hot since crypto went mainstream in 2024, this leg keeps a trimmed weight, so it confirms the others rather than leading them.
At prior cycle extremes
Retail search interest blew off near cycle tops, most sharply in late 2017, and collapsed in bear markets.
